Am Currently... #12

February. How is it already February? I could have sworn 2018 just started... Ahem! Anyway, I recently realised it's been a while since I've updated you, my friends, on what's going on with me! A lot has happened since my last Am Currently, so let's get to it!

I've decided to take a small break from my usual fantasy reads, with a new sci-fi read: Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Maegan Spooner. About a third of the way in I got bored, thinking the plot would drag on and on, but, um, WOW things picked up quickly. If you like a book with twists...this is the one for you.

Over my Christmas holidays I also read The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK WHEN IS THE SEQUEL I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT'S SO AMAZING READ IT RIGHT NOW. So. If you're interested in faeries, and intelligent characters with twisting, intricate agendas, I highly recommend it to you.

The last few months have been up and down, writing wise. I sent out my first ever book to beta-readers in December (some of them have finished, the rest are so close to!) which has been a wonderful growing experience. I have had to rethink parts of Golden Revenge as a result, particularly the ending. Having betas has taught me so many things, which I'll probably have to save for another post, but I've appreciated hearing their thoughts so much. *hugs to all of you*

One particular down was slowly fading away from the first draft of Of Traitors and Tricksters. I haven't given up on the story! But between hitting a road block plot wise, and preparing Golden Revenge for betas, my time and ideas for the story dried up. I'm hoping after completing my next round of edits for GR, I can slowly ease myself back into the story.

I also happened to finally give in to the nagging part of my brain that whispered to consider sequel possibilities for GR. I have a plot slowly forming in my mind, and I can't wait to see what becomes of it!

By chance I stumbled upon some music from the movie 'Anastasia'. I instantly loved its songs, and went to explore its soundtrack. Then, to my joy, I found a Broadway Musical version of the soundtrack on Spotify! It has even more songs than in the movie, while still keeping the best ones. Here are the songs from the Broadway version I love:

In My Dreams
Once Upon a December
Land of Yesterday

Tired and a little unwell, yet I'm still pushing on. I'm entering a scary and exciting year of my life, being the last year of school, but I'm trusting God that He has plans for me, forever and always.

Tell me about what's going on with you! What are you reading or writing? What's your favourite song at the moment? How are you?
Have a lovely day! <3

  4. It has been too long since I've been on your blog. I'M SO SORRY!!
Enjoy the last moments of school because it flies by waaayy to fast. Know that God has a plan and you don't have to follow what people expect you to follow. Go the path God has. :D

ANASTASIA IS AMAZING!! The movie is. I've seen little things from the musical and it probably rocks, too. Once Upon A December is amazing. They found a great voicefor Anastasia for the musical. It sounds so much like the movie.

I hope you feel better soon! <3

  5. Melissa!!! *hugs* good to see you again!!!

We all go through times when WIPs fade in and out of priority status (it's happened to me way too many times to count). Hang in there, it will come back!

I also found Anastasia through Spotify and I totally agree - it's absolutely beautiful!

Prayers that you get better soon!

Thanks for the encouragement. <3 It's part of being a writer, isn't it? WIPs are always fighting for priority status in our minds. :)

It is! Do you have a favourite song from the soundtrack? :D

      Thank you so much! <333

  7. Aw, I hope you feel better soon. God definitely has big plans for you! I'll continue praying!

I would love to read a post about your beta experience. I'm getting close to sending my story to my alpha for an official read-through and then after that, it'll go to my betas. Any tips and information on what to ask for/expect would be awesome!

  8. Huh, weird. I went to the library to try and put "Unearthed" on hold, but it wasn't there. Oh well. I'll have to get my hands on it one way or another. xD

Ahh, I understand what you're feeling. It's my last year of school, too, and it's so scary venturing into the unknown. But it's also been extremely good for learning how to trust on God. It helps that I'm not the only one going through this. :)

    1. That is strange. Maybe because it's a fairly new release? xD I hope you get to read it some time!

*high fives for the last year of school* It's scary, that's for sure, but having God to rely on and trusting in Him has helped so much. And definitely, you're not alone in this experience. <3

  9. GOLDEN REVENGE SEQUEL EEEEEEEP!!! *cough*

Unearthed is on my TBR. It seems different from what I usually read as well, but I'm looking forward to getting around to it sometime! (read: eventually xD)

God's got you covered, Melissa! He has amazing plans for you this year. <3

  11. I've heard so many good things about The Cruel Prince, so I've just downloaded it onto my Kindle and I'm super excited to get to it (when I finally finish Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson!). I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! :)
And I'm glad you've been finding the beta reader experience useful so far, even if you've had to rethink a few things. That's a really huge step to send it out to readers (I know I'll be super nervous when I finally get to that stage!), so that's definitely something to be proud of in itself :)

Aw thank you! It was scary, haha, but definitely worth it. I'm sure you'll find it useful too, when you get to that stage; I'll be here to support you if you get nervous! <3

  12. The Cruel Prince is on my TBR list - I've only heard amazing things about it!!

I'm currently reading through a couple of books: On Wings of Eagles by Ken Follet and Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertali (LOL VASTLY different, but I really enjoy mixing it up).
